Shopping Malls of Greater Phoenix P.II

There are fine shopping malls all over the Valley of the Sun. Some are more traditional malls, some are outlet malls, and some are more specialty store oriented. Following is profile of Metrocenter and Paradise Valley Mall with directions and special features of these two places.


Number of stores at Metrocenter:
phoenix.me_mall_metrocenter_546283413.jpgMetrocenter is located in Phoenix, Arizona west of I-17 between Dunlap and Peoria Avenues. The mall is very accessible by public transportation, making it popular with the younger crowd.

Metrocenter weas the Phoenix area's first major 2 level mall, having been built in 1973. When it was built, it was the largest mall in America. There are over 160 stores and restaurants at Metrocenter.

Anchor or main stores at Metrocenter:
Dillard's, Macy's, Sears, and JCPenney

Favorite stores at Metrocenter:
Guess, New York & Company, Animal Kingdom, Industrial Ride Shop, Torrid, Tulip, Bath & Body Works, The Knife Shop, Fuzziwig's Candy Factory, KB Toys, Perfumania, Yankee Candle.

Restaurants at Metrocenter:
Ruby Tuesday and the usual assortment of food court selections.

Worth mentioning:
Harkins has a 12 movie screens here. There is a children's play area at Metrocenter with a "Sky Mall" theme. Kids Club meets every second Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. in the South Mall, near Entrance 5.

Metrocenter is very popular with teens. They even have their very own online teen newsletter.

There are recruiting stations here for Army, Navy Marines and Air Force.

Westcor, who manages many malls here in the Valley, has taken charge of Metrocenter again and continues to redevelop and modernize it. Before Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale was built, Metrocenter was the only mall on the west side of town.
 
Points of interest nearby:
Castle & Coasters, an amusement park, is just off the mall near Dunlap. There are more stores and restaurants on the perimeter of the mall on Metro Parkway, like Best Buy, Circuit City and Barnes and Noble; Olive Garden, Souper Salad, Mimi's Cafe, Old Country Buffet, Y C's Mongolian Grill, China Inn, Black Angus. There is connecting bus service to Amtrak on Metro Parkway. The Phoenix Library has a branch here, too.

Paradise Valley Mall is located at 4568 E. Cactus Road in Phoenix, Arizona. That's the northwest corner of Cactus Road and Tatum Boulevard. Here's a map to Paradise Valley Mall.

Restaurants at the Paradise Valley Mall:
Ruby Tuesday is a regular 'sit down and be served' restaurant. All the others are of the food court variety.

Worth mentioning:
There's a free children's play area in Paradise Valley Mall near JCPenney. The kids love it! There's also a carousel that (for a nominal charge) the kids will enjoy. It's near the food court.

Points of interest nearby:
Not much in the sense of attractions in the immediate area. There's more shopping, though, near the mall perimeter. More stores, like Target, REI, Mervyn's, TJ Maxx, Party City, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Wal-Mart, Michael's, Best Buy, Pier One Imports, Toys R Us, Ulta, Sports Authority and more are nearby. Restaurants that are very close include Charley's Steakery, Outback Steakhouse, Fuddruckers's, and Pasta Pomodoro.
